#TheTrainJob – Adepta Sororitas of Our Martyred Lady

The last remaining Adepta Sororitas gather around the remains of the Chapel of Our Martyred Lady. Sister Superior Veronica will lead the ceremony to desanctify this ruin so that the remains of the 15th Saint can be taken off world. Until this sacred act is complete the chapel is holy ground and home to the last of the faithful

#TheTrainJob – Adeptus Arbites patrol

“Duty roster: Planet 1NA”

These were words even the most veteran Adeptus Arbites officer didn’t want to hear. 1NA was considered to be the arse-end of planets, in the arse-end of systems. To be posted here, even for the shortest amount of time, was practically a death sentence. If the radiation didn’t kill you, then the local populace of scum and villiany would.

1NA once specialised in mining, processing and the production of low-grade ceramite. Mined almost to exhaustion, the dwindling resources meant Imperial involvement slowly reduced. Those that could afford to leave the planet did, while those who remained behind were forced to scrap out a living in the slums, which soon accounted for over 75% of the habitats on 1NA.

The Arbites stationed on 1NA were fighting a losing battle. And it was a battle. Slowly, the planet was descending into anarchy and lawlessness as the Imperium’s interest dwindled and its grip loosened. Casualties were mounting and resources were scarce. The Arbites were increasingly forced to work with local militia groups, Adepta Sororitas covenants, mercenaries, bounty hunters and many other unsavory characters. And with increasing desperation, payment became increasingly unorthodox, ranging from credits, food rations, and the Emperor’s pardon for past crimes to weapons, ammunition, protection, dead bodies and even xenos captives…

For this game, I’ll be using the Adeptus Arbites fan-Codex written by Matthew Forish (found here Arbites 7th v1.4). I have a full squad of 10 Arbitrators with shotguns. The ‘executioner ammunition’ is represented by a unique stat line; R18, S4, AP5, twin-linked, no cover, no snaps – which ‘feels’ right and is an elegant way to represent the heat-seeking, armour-piercing ammo. One of the squad carries a grenade launcher and has a skill to ignore cover. They are led by a sergeant with a plasma pistol and shock maul (a close combat weapon that gives +1S), and he is accompanied by his faithful K-9 unit which I’ve given the fear special rule. Finally, the team is supported by a three-man pursuit team mounted on bikes. The leader of which has the hammer of wrath skill – hopefully he can simply run over his opponent before he even needs to draw his weapon!

#TheTrainJob – the brief

Registered World 1NA is a back water industrial planet that specialised in mining, processing and product of low-grade ceramite. Due to low remaining resources, imperial involvement has been slowly reduced over the last 25 years. Those that could afford to leave have, those that remain work in the last remaining jobs or scrap out a living in the slums which now make up over 75% of each sector.

What follows is an intercepted communicade between illegal freighter traffic in the Georgia System, thought to be referring to planet 1NA…

BEASTMARINES report 62.44.9666.57

Planet 1NA known as ‘Regina’. Back water hell hole little imperial influence. Rumours of possible Wolf Brothers planetfall sighting. Impossible to ratify without further study. Decision to send scouting unit for corroboration taken. Unit to include Greygan Prime, one of the oldest of us, as requirement to complete any spirit connection needed if to fully corroborate rumours. Considered low risk. Engagement protocol Zulu Bravo 32. Not to have any part in local affairs unless directly engaged. Beast Guard leader Haryk Black Blade is in command. Will require updates upon arrival. For the Emperor, for Leman of Russ, for the Blessed 13th, may your hooves and horns part the Imperium’s enemies and may you find our lost brothers.

#TheTrainJob – setting the scene

Next week will see the lads from Innsmouth play a series of linked, narrative-based ‘Kill Team’ games entitled; The Train Job

With @tinracersteve leading the way, everyone is frantically gathering their forces, making their lists, and buying, building, and painting scenery and special objectives – including a purpose-built and (fully functional!) train

For those who don’t know, Kill Team uses the standard Warhammer 40k rules but tweaked slightly to represent small-scale, 200 point, skirmishes, where each model acts independently (rules can be found here Kill_Team (1)). This allows the players to really go to town on their models and inject a good bit of character, narrative and fluff. The games won’t necessarily be about ‘winning’ but more about telling a cool story

Forces taking part include;

  • Adeptus Arbites patrol
  • Dark Eldar biker gang
  • Chaos Iron Warriors retinue
  • The ‘Orkenstein’ (WW2-themed speed freak Orks)
  • Beastmarines – a lost (and drunk) loyalist Space Marine chapter
  • A holy Sisters of Battle covenant

More updates will follow, but check out #TheTrainJob on Twitter for the latest news

Space Hulk Olympics

The brief for the gaming weekend was simple

A text message that said: “We’ll play Space Hulk. Bring 10 models and make your own rules. See you there!”

Reading between the (sparse) lines, we all knew to expect lots of rum too

I brought two squads of Deathwing. And just for funsies, made one of them Deathwing Knights. In hindsight, bringing a squad of close combat Terminators aboard a space hulk to tackle a Genestealer infestation was a little ill-advised… cool… but ill-advised

The other squads included; a Tau stealth suit team (with their own neat ‘blip’ markers to represent them being cloaked), a squad of Chaos Iron Warriors and a mob of Beastmarines

We had a series of fun missions to complete and each took it in turns to play the Genestealers. We also added rules for ‘explodable’ scenery – if targeted and a hit is scored on a set of barrels, they explode and kill everything in the same tile on a 2+! (hilariously, this caused the Chaos player to ‘go all bottom-lippy’ when his entire squad was blown up by a suicidal Beastmarine power-fisting a set of barrels in the same room!)

Oh the fun!

We will ride into battle! – The new Taurox

Painting my four Humvee-inspired Taurox transports (converted using Zinge Industries’ military wheels)

I really like the size of these (Land Raider shown for scale) and I think they fit perfectly with the classic Kasrkin models

Now to charge headlong into the enemies of the Emperor and deliver swift retribution!

Bit of an impulse purchase

I was lucky enough to pick up 35 classic Imperial Guard Karskin models at a recent toy fair in Milton Keynes for a bargain price

Ever since the Taurox was released, and inspired by the TV series Generation Kill, I wanted to convert one into a Humvee-looking transport using Zinge Industries’ military wheels

assaulthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oodTuhaLYpU

35 Kasrkin with special weapons, mounted in four Taurox and led by a Commissar comes in at exactly 1000 points – and is also a pretty neat formation (ok, in game they suck, but they look great!)

After painting a test model, I took the troopers on holiday with me. I was especially pleased with converted sergeant

“What’s the matter, the CIA got you pushing too many pencils?!”

Necromunda – The Iron Jaw Brawlers

With the release of GW’s new Bloodreaver kit, I felt they’d make an epic Goliath gang for Necromunda

I picked up a box, some cool shotguns and rifles from Anvil Industry and raided my spare parts

For painting, I experimented with a super-cheaty method using just washes and drybrushing over a bone-coloured undercoat

We’ve started a new campaign and my gang, known as the ‘Iron Jaw Brawlers’ have already got themselves a reputation for recklessness.

Highlights of the campaign for the Brawlers so far include:

  • A friendly fire incident from my heavy that resulted in the death of a ganger (internal grudges it seems!)
  • My leader shooting a rival gang leader in the hand with his bolt pistol during a shootout (causing -1WS)
  • My leader earning the ‘fear’ skill after killing an enemy ganger
  • The first shot of my grenade launcher (which I was so excited about) exploding in the breach taking him out of action
